Dhrupad Maestro & Practitioner of Dagarvani Style of Music Ustad Rahim Fahimuddin Dagar died
Dhrupad maestro Ustad Rahim Fahimuddin Dagar died on 27 July 2011 in New Delhi. Ustad Rahim Fahimuddin Dagar born in Alwar in 1927 into an eminent family of Dhrupad musicians was a renowned practitioner of Dagarvani style of music that originated from the Vedas.
He was initiated into music by his illustrious father, Ustad Allahbande Rahimuddin Khan Dagar, and later trained under Nasiruddin Dagar, Imamuddin Dagar and Hussainuddin Dagar.
Rahim Fahimuddin Dagar was known for the power and spontaneity of his alap and for his rich repertoire of traditional bandishes.
He was a frequent performer on All India Radio and Doordarshan. Rahim Fahimuddin Dagar not only presented his music at festivals across the country but also performed abroad.
For his outstanding contribution to Hindustani music, he was elected Fellow of Sangeet Natak Akademi (for 2010). He had been honoured with the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1993, the Sahitya Kala Parishad Samman in 1996 and the Rajasthan Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2003. He also won the Indra Gandhi Fellowship (1997), Lifetime Achievement Award (2005) by North American Dhrupad Association, Lifetime Achievement Award, by Govt. of Delhi (2007). He was honoured with the Padma Bhusan Award in 2008.
