The National Statistical Commission Survey (NSCS) report says that poverty, illiteracy and unemployment have declined in the last five years. Elaborating on the results of 64th and 65th rounds of the survey to reporters in New Delhi on 28th july. The National Statistical Commission Survey Chairman Prof. R Radhakrishna said that after adjusting inflation, average salary earnings have hiked by 25 percent for males and 36 percent for females in urban areas during the last two years. The rural areas witnessed over 10 percent and about 18 percent growth in male and female incomes respectively. He added that the Central employment schemes like Mahatma Gandhi-NREGA played a major role in uplifting the employment trends in rural areas.
The National Statistical Commission Survey report also suggests that national literacy ratio had improved to 66 percent with Mizoram topping the domestic charts by 95 percent.
